When was blades of glory filmed

What killed Ekaterina Alexandrovskaya? Will there be a Blades of Glory 2? Did Will Ferrell wear a wig in Blades of Glory? Did Amy Poehler skate in Blades of Glory? Where was Blades of Glory filmed? Did Will Arnett skate in Blades of Glory? Is Jon Heder left handed? So, those are two things.

Jon didn't know I was left-handed. JH: That's true. Did the Iron Lotus really happen? Is Blades of Glory based on cutting edge? Why is backflip on ice illegal? How did 20 year old ice skater died? How much money did Tonya Harding get for the movie I Tonya? An argument ensues, which develops into a fight on the awards podium, ending with the World Games mascot being set on fire. As a result, they are stripped of their medals and banned from men's singles competition for life.

Jimmy's competitive adoptive father, billionaire Darren MacElroy William Fichtner , immediately disowns him and leaves him stranded on the side of the road. Three and a half years later, Jimmy is working at a winter sporting goods store, while Chazz is fired from a children's skating show called "Grublets On Ice" for being in a drunken stupor on stage. Jimmy's obsessive stalker, Hector Nick Swardson , tells him of a loophole in the ban allowing him to compete in pair skating. Nelson , but is unable to find a partner.

Jimmy's search for a last-minute partner leads him to Chazz, and Robert convinces the two to skate as the first-ever same-sex pairs team, because the regulations fail to state the genders of the pairs. Robert informs them that to win, they will need to perform a technique that has never been performed successfully: The "Iron Lotus", an extremely complicated maneuver that Robert developed years ago.

However, it is also dangerous: the only attempt of the maneuver was "behind the bamboo curtain" in North Korea, and resulted in the man decapitating the woman with his skate blade.

Nonetheless, they decide to attempt it as Robert is convinced that two males would be better suited for the move because of the physics of a same-sex team this is a parody of skating-themed film The Cutting Edge , where the conflicting main characters also decide to practice a dangerous skating routine. And then we began working on it collectively with the Cox brothers. We did several rewrites with them and shaped the script. What attracted Stiller to the project?

It was a great idea. The characters were great. It was something that we both thought could improve in terms of structure so we just started working with the writers on it.

So that was exciting for us to work with those guys. The Cox brothers remained on and then Krinsky and Altschuler came on and helped out.

But it was a very inclusive sort of experience, I think, for everybody. We do readings a lot. We did a few readings and kept on working at it. You know, I guess at one point we were talking about me possibly doing it, but my ice skating ability is so pathetically bad. I have flat feet. I have weak ankles, which is just a no-no for the ice. So very quickly I realized I would never be able to pull it off. When I read the script for the first time I immediately went to Will as Chazz because I just saw him doing what he does best in it.

I was very excited when he read it and he was interested in doing it. He is just incredible. I always say you do the scripted take and then you do at least a couple takes where you just tell Will to try and do anything he wants. And Heder was really uniquely suited for the part of Jimmy just in terms of his physicality.

His command of physical comedy really, really shines. He became a really good ice skater. But both strangely are very graceful on the ice and they really worked very hard at the skating. They got the script to Stiller, who liked the idea, so he got on board as a producer rather than an actor. Ferrell was drafted in by Stiller and admitted that although he was a fan of figure skating, recognising the skills of the skaters, he was more interested in the pure spectacle, rather than watching it as a serious sport.

Initially, the scriptwriters had envisaged Ferrell playing MacElroy and Stiller playing Michaels, but this all changed by the time they started filming. Neither Ferrell nor Heder had much experience of ice skating when filming started, so they both had to work with a skating coach so they could manage the basic moves. However, Heder fractured his ankle while skating early on in filming and it was touch and go whether the movie would be completed on time — or indeed at all.

Ferrell said he based his skating style on the Canadian figure skater, Elvis Stojko, who was a three-times world champion in , and and won two Olympic silver medals.
